Task #5 - A Modest Proposal - With your remaining time in class, read, arguably, the BEST SATIRICAL essay ever written...mainly because some people actually thought it was a good idea.
Write down some quick notes on your “Reading s2” document that might answer the following questions.
- What is the human flaw the writer is trying to ridicule (way more than just 1)? What type of person is he targeting?
- This was written in 1729! How might this go over today? Do we have any similar issues, problems?
- What does the writer specifically say and do to make this effective? Why would some people laugh at this while others might think it is a good idea?
- What is his THESIS?
- What is most convincing argument?
- What is his most ridiculous argument?
Homework Tips - Make sure you read A Modest Proposal before Monday and be ready to write about it.
