Learning Target - I will learn how to create - and evaluate - a provable thesis/argument using strong CDs and insightful CM.
Your goal for today is to prove which characters from Romeo & Juliet deserve to be pardoned and who needs to be punished for their role in this tragedy.
Task #1 - Researching Evidence - In small groups, research the evidence from the text and create a strong argument that defends or condemns the actions of your assigned character. Please consider the opposing argument while generating your thesis and harvesting your CDs. Consider using THIS DOCUMENT to organize your work.
Task #2 - Present Your Thesis - Present your provable thesis to a jury of your peers and clearly walk them through your proof/evidence/CDs and argument/CM. Please be ready to turn in your work by the end of class.
Task #3 - Final Verdict - As each group presents, the jury must listen closely to each argument and assess the evidence for both sides - forgiven and blamed. As a group you must decide which side has the strongest argument and make a final verdict.
SKILL SCALE
Content - CMs/CDs/Ideas - Students will generate a provable thesis/argument that is supported by strong CDs and insightful CM.
Distinguished - You are a master at identifying meaningful CDs, creating insightful CM that prove the guilt or innocence of your character to a jury of your peers. You easily build and shape your CM based on the opposing viewpoint.
Strong/Solid - You can identify meaningful CDs and create adequate CM that might prove the guilt or innocence of your character to a jury of your peers.
Basic - You can find obvious CDs and generate basic CMs - with the help of No Fear, your peers, the movie or your teacher - that explain the possible guilt or innocence of your character but might not fully persuade a jury of your peers.
Unsatisfactory - You think to yourself, ”I didn’t do it!!!”
