Learning Target - I will refine my ability to actively “read” a story.
Task #1 - Halloween Treat Performance Task - Due to my optimistic nature and faith in your dedication to actually reading LOTF, we will be taking a break today from our story. In the spirit of Halloween, we will be listening to a real life “spooky” story.
Now, before you get too excited, you will need to be actively listening...which means, you need to write down major events, CDs, elements of characterization. You will also need to be using our first two reading steps.
- Make connections to yourself, other stories and the world.
- Ask questions
Be ready to choose 1 of the following performance tasks.
- Write a fictional version of what happened to the family and house.
- Write a quick 1st person diary entry as the narrator after he first visited the house.
- Draw a few detailed pictures of the house and clues left behind.
- Identify the narrator’s internal conflicts
- List out the 4 most important pieces of evidence and why.
- Keep detailed active reading notes that identify CDs that relate to characterization, thematic topics and language.
First caveat, these tasks will serve as extra credit or a replacement score if you have a C- or higher in the class. If you are at a D or below, you must work on turning in any missing or incomplete work.
Second caveat, if you use your computer during class, you can only have a Google doc open. No games. No shopping. No memes. No socializing.
Task #2 - Missing or Incomplete Work - For those who need to make up work, use this class time to focus on one or two assignments and skills. I would recommend looking at your writing/CD usage tasks. This will have the greatest impact on your grade.
Homework Tips - Keep reading and expect a quiz on Monday for both chapters 4 & 5.
